Sunday School Program
At the present time, our Sunday School services children in grades nursery through 12th grades. The 11th – 12th grade class is a discussion group which meets twice a month. The other two Sundays of the month the student is expected to give service in altar, sing in the choir or assist in Sunday School. Children in grades 7 through 10 are required to participate in the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. The Sunday School participates in a coat and book drive. The younger grades participate in the Christmas pageant, the older grades participate in Youth Sunday in the fall. There is also a Communion Breakfast in December for all grades. The curriculum used is that of the Department of Religious Education, with supplemental materials also being utilized. There is a $20 registration fee which covers the cost of the textbook, supplies and donation to a charitable program. Children should arrive at 9:55, light a candle and proceed directly to class. Classroom, calendar and teacher information is provided at registration. Once a month each class has ‘Church Day’ when the class will stay in church for the liturgy and be prepared to receive Holy Communion. Parents who wish their children to receive more frequently, must pick up their child from class when Holy Communion begins. Children are dismissed into church when Holy Communion is over. Children’s work is on display on the downstairs bulletin board. Attendance pins and completion certificates are presented in June.
